Palazzo Rinaldi is a lot more than just a space for Artists. It is also a family home warmed by a traditional southern Italian welcome, and is run by artists: thus providing a stimulating creative dialogue, practical assistance in researching and creating your work on location, and most importantly the opportunity to present your work to the local community through dedicated open studios days, performances, workshops, screenings and installations all through the summer.

Step back in time

Palazzo Rinaldi is a historical property dating back from 1822.  Every detail within, from the furniture to the original family photographs, has been preserved and speaks of ages past. You will step back in time setting to sleep in the original wrought-iron beds, admiring the sweeping view from the terrace or setting off for a country walk down the village’s winding cobbled streets or buying fruit from one of the street sellers in the piazza. At the same time modern comforts are a priority at Palazzo Rinaldi, and Resident Artists will find everything they need for their creative work as well as rest and relaxation: from free wi-fi and studios accessible 24 hours a day, to sun loungers on the terrace and Ipod docks for music and relaxation.

Artists’ facilities

Resident Artists stay in exquisitely appointed private bedrooms in the original 1822 Palazzo Rinaldi building. The Palazzo’s spacious, high ceilinged bedrooms have original period furniture and features such as oak ceiling beams and baked cotto floor tiles. The small scale of the Residency means that our bedrooms guarantee privacy and a quiet environment for all our Resident Artists. Our Master Bedroom also come with a breathtaking view of the Sarmento valley below. Extra beds can be added upon request. Artists in residence are also provided with free wi-fi connection throughout the Palazzo, a cotton bathrobe & slippers for personal use during their stay, weekly towel change, local area information and a welcome tray on arrival.

Italian food doesn’t get any more traditional than in the remote South.  Here you will be able to enjoy our famous home cooked organic breakfast, which you will be able to enjoy outdoors on our panoramic terrace. Our breakfast items are all locally sourced, seasonal and organic wherever possible, and include mamma Pina’s delicious home made jams!  Vegetarian  and vegan options are also available.

Note on Residency Fees: Palazzo Rinaldi currently receives no financial support from either public or private sources.  Despite this, the Residency is actively working towards the future goal of eliminating Residency Fees and being able to offer Bursaries to its Artists in Residence.  At the moment the above Residency Fees, which are set as low as possible, are necessary to cover the costs of running the program and the day-to-day maintenance of a large historical property. By attending the Residency, you are also keeping it alive.

In line with Palazzo Rinaldi's mission statement, all its Resident Artists are invited to exhibit in our Gallery and take part in the curated events that take place parallel to the Residencies free of charge.  All events are free and open to the public.

Upon request Palazzo Rinaldi can provide written Invitation Letters to its confirmed Resident Artists in order to assist them in finding funding in their countries of origin.
